ReThinking Education Starts With One.
MARIA SANCHEZ
Chief Education Officer- Latino Educational Solutions
Drawing on personal and professional experience, Maria is an innovative and strategic thinker committed to working for the betterment of all. Bringing over a decade of experience in programmatic design and implementation, access to local and national collaborators, as well as an authentic engagement factor, Maria is dedicated to disrupting the national educational outlook for all students, especially Latinos, by rethinking education. Maria’s experiences include creating local and national programs focused on the successful recruitment and success of all students in education; especially Latino students, creating and sustaining project partners who invest in the community, and speaking and engaging directly with students and parents in an effort to reinforce the idea that every one of us fits into creating the solutions that will help Latinos go to and get through college .
A visionary, Maria’s efforts are centered on the thought that Education is Noble. She stands firm in the thought that education is a public good and works daily to create opportunities for individuals to build their social capital; especially when it comes to answering the questions: How to get Latinos to College and How do we get Latinos through College?
Born in Mexico, Maria moved to Ohio shortly before her first birthday. As a first-generation college student, Maria quickly learned that unfortunately good grades in high school gave her little if no advantage when it came to trying to figure out how to navigate the admissions process and beyond. Through personal, professional and shared experience, Maria has come to understand the power of sharing resources, knowledge and access in an effort to change a generation, one student at a time.
Maria earned two bachelor of arts degrees in Spanish and French from The Ohio State University in 2008, and a Master’s of Arts in Educational Studies, Higher Education Student Affairs in 2016. She is committed to earning her Doctorate as an example to keep dreaming.
Maria currently resides in Columbus, Ohio. Read about her dedication to her grandfather below.
